Our Mission
Buying a home is the largest financial decision most Canadians will ever make. Yet the tools and information needed to make that decision confidently have traditionally been locked behind broker appointments and bank visits. HomeWise exists to change that — giving every Canadian transparent, real-time mortgage data and expert-grade calculators, completely free.
Why We Built HomeWise
HomeWise started with a simple frustration: getting a straight answer about a Canadian mortgage is harder than it should be. Posted bank rates rarely reflect what you'll actually pay, online calculators ignore the stress test and CMHC premiums, and the real math only surfaces once you're sitting across from a broker.
We thought Canadians deserved better — a place where you can model your real monthly payment, see how the stress test affects what you qualify for, estimate your land transfer tax province by province, and compare live rates from the major banks, all before you ever pick up the phone. Like a lot of people, I found getting a straight answer about a Canadian mortgage far harder than it should be, so I built the tools and plain-English explanations I wished I'd had.”
Because HomeWise is an independent project and not a licensed brokerage, every figure on the site is built directly from authoritative, publicly available sources — the Bank of Canada, OSFI, CMHC, and provincial tax tables — and the tools always show their assumptions so you can check the math yourself.
